Silly Time

One of my favourite moments from a sleep consultation before Christmas was seeing a mother’s face light up as she spoke about introducing silly time before bedtime. Her child had been at nursery all day, and she said it was such a wonderful way for the family to connect and giggle together before starting the bedtime routine.

Silly time is an amazing tool to use before bed to burn off that energy. It gives your little one a safe space to get all their sillies out, making winding down much easier.

Laughing together also helps build that connection with your little one, helping fill their “love bucket”. Children who feel well connected will often find going to bed easier.

Silly time could be tickle fights, play wrestling (a big hit in my house!), dancing, or even challenging your little one to hop like a frog before fluttering like a butterfly. Feel free to get creative and come up with activities that you both love!

After the fun, transition to quieter activities like reading a story or doing some gentle

stretches, signalling that it's bedtime.

Why not give it a go and see if it brings calm to your bedtime routine.
